At-home breath test for four cancers, screened by trained beagles and verified by a multimodal AI sensor stack — 93.9% sensitivity and 94.3% specificity in a 1,386-participant double-blind trial.

What it is

SpotitEarly is Shlomi Madar's at-home multi-cancer screening test. You breathe into a surgical mask and mail it in; trained detection beagles sniff the sample in an instrumented port while cameras, a microphone, and accelerometer vests capture their behavioral signals, which per-sensor machine learning models convert into a result. The LUCID platform screens for breast, lung, colorectal, and prostate cancer, and reported 93.9% sensitivity and 94.3% specificity in a 1,386-participant double-blind study published in Scientific Reports. It is CLIA registered and commercializing as a laboratory-developed test ahead of a separate FDA approval pursuit.

Who it's for

Health-conscious consumers who want an early cancer screening option less invasive and less expensive than a full-body MRI or Grail's Galleri, and founders building regulated, high-stakes AI who need a model for buying accuracy through redundancy rather than a single confident read.

Why it's better

  • Detection sensitivity from a trained biological sensor operating at parts per trillion, a threshold no electronic nose or mass spectrometry system currently matches.
  • Multiple dogs and repeated sniffs per sample turn one animal's unreliable read into a reproducible, auditable consensus result.
  • Positioned explicitly as a triage layer, not a diagnosis, which keeps it inside the standard of care rather than replacing it.
  • Priced at roughly $500 for the four-cancer panel versus Grail's Galleri at roughly $950, after surveying physicians and patients on price tolerance.
  • CLIA registered and selling today as a lab-developed test, rather than waiting years for FDA approval before reaching patients.
