Sleep.ai
Sleep intelligence API and SDK that normalizes data from hundreds of consumer wearables against the clinical polysomnography standard, then sells the personalized intervention layer to health and wellness apps.
What it is
Sleep.ai, formerly SleepScore Labs, is a sleep intelligence platform founded in 2016 as a ResMed spinout with backing from Dr. Mehmet Oz and Pegasus Capital, rebranded to Sleep.ai in 2025. It has collected close to a billion hours of real-world sleep data and run more than 250 intervention studies. Its core technology normalizes data from hundreds of consumer wearables against polysomnography, the hospital sleep lab standard, so an Apple Watch, an Oura Ring, and no wearable at all can all be compared on one scale. Partners license the SDK and API on a monthly-active-user basis, integrable in about a day, and Sleep.ai separately sells R&D and validation services to companies building their own sleep products. In Germany, its Dein Schlaf program became the first sleep improvement app reimbursed by statutory health insurers, now reaching roughly 25 million insured members.
Who it's for
Health and wellness apps that want a personalized sleep layer without funding their own clinical validation, and consumer hardware or digital health companies that need data access and studies to prove their product actually improves sleep.
Why it's better
- •Anchored to polysomnography, the clinical gold standard, rather than shipping another uncalibrated wearable algorithm — the company has funded thousands of lab nights to get there.
- •Normalizes across hundreds of consumer wearables, so partners can compare users on one scale instead of trusting whatever number each device reports.
- •Sells the intervention layer, not just the data — 250+ studies across advice, CBT-I, supplements, pillows, mattresses, blue light filtering, and air purification back the recommendation engine.
- •First sleep technology in the world reimbursed by health insurers, via Germany's prevention law, turning regulation into a distribution channel.
- •Two-lane revenue (MAU-priced API plus R&D services) means every validation study a partner pays for also sharpens the core product.
