User-First AI Integration

Start with the exact moment of user friction, not with the AI capability. Bring AI invisibly into the user's existing behavior rather than forcing users to adopt a new interaction model to access AI features.

How it works

  1. 1The failure mode: bolt a chatbot onto an existing product, call it AI-powered. The user must stop what they're doing, switch context, type a query, and return. The friction exists; the AI just moved it.
  2. 2The Snipd example: the moment of friction is hands-busy listening. AI cannot require the user to stop and type. The solution: triple-tap headphones, AI captures and summarizes the insight. User behavior unchanged.
  3. 3Design principle: identify where the user already is, what they're already doing, and what friction exists in that exact moment. AI should be invisible in removing it.
  4. 4The test: if integrating your AI feature requires the user to learn a new behavior or go somewhere new, you've added AI to a product. If the user doesn't notice they used AI — they just noticed the friction disappeared — you've built an AI-native product.
  5. 5Broader application: the same principle applies to any workflow tool. Find the moment before the user abandons the task, and eliminate what causes abandonment.
